Michael Shays helps management reach breakthrough solutions and achieve implementation by focusing on what must be achieved instead of what is wrong and what caused it. It is a process that is extremely effective in conflict resolution and managing transitions.

Michael began as a management consultant in 1966, when he left General Electric to join Bruce Payne & Associates in New York, an international operations improvement consulting firm. In 1973, he was recruited to Coopers & Lybrand as a management consulting partner. Over the next fourteen years, he was given responsibility for the New York Computer Systems Consulting practice, for all consulting to the firm's largest single client, AT&T, for management of the Northwest Region Consulting Practice, and for Communications Industry Consulting in the Pacific Area.

While at C&L, Michael was recruited by BDO Seidman to be National Director of Management Consulting. He later assumed the Chairmanship of BDO's International Management Consulting Committee. He formed EMS Consultants in 1990, creating a network of experienced consultants from around the world focused on leading-edge solutions for business.

Michael is a member of the Advisory Board of The Center for Breakthrough Thinking, Inc., focusing on superior decision processes. He is an alliance partner of The ForeSight Network, specialists in building innovation management and entrepreneurial programs in large companies. He is a certified instructor of the Institute of Global Ethics.

Michael has been a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC) since 1973, and was elected a Fellow of the Institute in 1988. He has served as Chairman of the U.S. Institute in 1983 - 85 and again in 2001 - 02, and as Chairman of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes in 1993 - 95. He is Chairman and Publisher of C2M, Consulting to Management, a professional publication devoted to improving the practice of consulting around the world. He has been an active mentor and instructor in the field of management consulting on five continents, and is the recipient of IMC's Lifetime Achievement Award.
